RECENT REVIEWS OF GRAVE - the new single by MADEMOISELLE K

"The media release for this single is headlined ‘France’s Coolest Rock Band’. A gutsy call by

the band’s publicist. Like most music journalists in this country, I feel that headlines like

this are just begging me to write something acerbic, to prick their pomposity and cut them

thoroughly down to size. Sadly, ten seconds into the single I realise they’re right. They are

France’s coolest rock band. Journalism fail." Drum Perth 9 July, Single Review by Jaymes Brown

"Don’t laugh, this is serious. As in Grave means ‘serious’ in, er, foreign. But seriously folks (I’ll stop now...), Mme K is a French rock band pretty obviously taking cues from The Pretenders circa 1982. Not a bad thing, with the nation applauding the return of sprayed-on leather pants and the skinny tie as shirt. With production by a former Green Day cohort this has an international outlook, with the eponymous Katerine Gierak’s snarling Gallic purr having the desired effect even before you hear the translation. Tu descends, indeed."

Climbing up the AMERICANA MUSIC CHARTS

TOP 5 MOST ADDED TITLES

Officially showcasing at SXSW ‘09

Performing at WOODFORD and PEAT'S RIDGE Festivals

Kara is climbing the Americana Radio Music Charts just weeks after independently releasing her debut solo album in the US (Craving/MRI). In three weeks Grand and Green River has soared from # 389 to # 35. It’s also in the Top 5 most added titles for the third week in a row. This rise towards the top comes as no surprise to most as Kara’s reputation and profile has only been growing since her move to the States in 2006.
Kara has just been invited to play at SXSW ‘09 and is returning to her homeland of Australia this Christmas to play at the summer music festivals’ Woodford and Peats Ridge. While she is back in Oz Kara will record her next EP with Australian Folk/Blues Guitarist Extraordinaire JEFF LANG which promises to be quite the collaboration. Stay tuned for updates and look out for Kara Grainger in 2009.

Two of Australia’s best songwriters, Paul Greene and Kara Grainger, will join forces to play one show at The Basement on Thursday September 4.

Paul Greene’s album ‘Distance Over Time’ is a phenomenal showcase for his songwriting skills, justifying the many critics who regard him as one of Australian music's best-kept secrets. Sydney Morning Herald's Bernard Zuel remarked how he moves effortlessly "from rustic folk-pop to unreconstructed rocker; from herbal roots ex-surfer type to intense singer-songwriter". And others agree – He has gained the attention of John Butler, The Waifs and Ani DiFranco and with his album selling over 30,000 units since release he has lived up to the attention.

Joining Paul on stage will be Kara Grainger who’s debut album ‘Grand and Green River’, which features Blue Note recording artist Amos Lee, was released to critical acclaim with the highly respected Blues & Roots bible, Rhythms Magazine describing it as a “rich, fully and lush, a fantastic rootsy record, chock full of the blues, a slight pop undertone, all overlaid with her haunting voice - a debut to be proud of." Following the release Kara completed a national tour with blues folk guitarist Jeff Lang and will, before the show at The Basement, perform at the 2008 Gympie Muster.

Tickets are on sale now from The Basement – www.thebasement.com.au - for a show that promises to be remarkable.

2007 WINNERS ANNOUNCED

ABBY DOBSON wins SECOND PLACE
in AAA category
for her song Horses,
co-written with Ian Houston Shadwell

The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) is pleased to announce its 2007 winners. Renowned for its prestigious celebrity judges, ISC received over 15,000 songs from amateur and professional songwriters from 100 countries worldwide, confirming ISC's status as the leading global songwriting event.

"The big news for ISC this year is the dominance of Australian songwriters as winners in many different categories, including a clean sweep of the Rock category. This is the first time that songwriters from a country outside the USA have won First, Second, and Third Place in a specific category. It is especially remarkable that Australia, a country of only 20 million residents, has produced ten winners in this year's ISC, attesting to its dynamic music scene. Aussie winners range from up-and-coming, unsigned songwriters to established award-winning artists such as Gotye, Eskimo Joe, Clare Bowditch, Abby Dobson, and more."

Craving artists Jackie Bristow and Kara Grainger were also finalists in the AAA category. To see the complete list of ISC winners please go to www.songwritingcompetition.com/winners.htm

A bit about Edoardo - In 2006 Edoardo Santoni released his stunning debut album with his band at the time ‘The Velvet Fog’. Following an East Coast tour it was warmly received with great reviews and a nomination in the ‘MusicOz’ awards for their single ‘Blue Track’ & in 2007 they were feature artists with JJJ ‘Unearthed’. Now having launched himself as a solo artist he is now busy working on his solo debut album and performing with his new songs and band. Always inspiring, Edoardo’s warm blend of Acoustic Pop songs are at once timeless and fresh expressing his sincerity, honesty and passion combined with melodic and thoughtful arrangements.
